Lord, Give Me My Own Jonathan!

Topic: Lord, Give Me My Own Jonathan!

Text: 1 Samuel 18 vs 1-4.

Confessions:

God is love and He will put Himself in the heart of my friends, spouse, children, siblings, neighbours, colleagues and acquaintances, and He will make them to love me as their own souls in Jesus' name. Amen.

Exhortation:

In 1 Samuel 18 vs 1-4, a miracle of love happened and this is how it was recorded: "And it came to pass, when he had made an end of speaking unto Saul, that the soul of Jonathan was knit with the soul of David and Jonathan loved him as his own soul. And he took him that day, and would let him go no more home to his father's house. Then Jonathan and David made a covenant because he loved him as his own soul. And Jonathan stripped himself of the robe that was upon him, and gave it to David, and his garments, even to his bow, and to his girdle".

My beloved in the Lord, the accounts of the acceptance of David by Jonathan as presented in the Bible, was a no mean account. It was an account of soulful marriage; heart-full acceptance and God-full encounter! David, before meeting Goliath in 1 Samuel 17, was a shepherd boy. His parentage was ordinary; his pedigree had no degree and his name was lame. Even, Jesse, his father, did not think highly of him and he was living with his father's flocks in the forest. But God suddenly raised him the day he killed Goliath and that was the beginning of his glory.

Jonathan was the heir apparent to King Saul. Saul was the first King in Israel and the place of Jonathan was quite pivotal in the entire nation. As a result of the epochal victory of David over Goliath, Jonathan accepted David and loved him as his own soul. "And Jonathan stripped himself of the robe that was upon him, and gave it to David......" This was a transfer of his royalty and right of primogeniture to David. It was a costly gift. It was a transfer of heritage and inheritance. No wonder, David succeeded Saul as next King of Israel.

Listen to me: Jonathan's love for David was not ordinary. Saul later became envious of David and turned to his arch-enemy. But because God had raised a Jonathan for David in the house of Saul, the preservation of David from the evils and attacks of Saul became settled. Jonathan to David means: defense from the root of attack; light in the face of darkness; preservation from liquidation and fortress in the house of the enemy. Your own Jonathan will locate you today in Jesus' name.

Every destiny needs a Jonathan because life is an open battle. You need a Jonathan to survive plots and devices of the enemy. You need a Jonathan to overcome the pursuer and the stalker. You need a Jonathan to sit on the throne of your generation. You need a Jonathan to inherit what you did not work for; to eat what you did not cook; to possess cities you did not build and to spread yourself over a land for which you did not labour! A Jonathan is a Jesus in the house of the enemy, a sacrificing angel leading you to your destiny.

How do you receive your own Jonathan? It is simply by the GIVING OF GOD! David did not pray for Jonathan: God gave him to him! God will give you your own Jonathan in Jesus' name. A Jonathan may be a wife; a husband; a colleague in the office, a brother or sister in the ministry or in the church. Your own Jonathan may be your driver, your house-help or your gateman like Mordecai. Believe God for him. Pray to God for him. Praise God for him and rejoice all the time in the Lord, because He will give you such a gift this season in Jesus' name. Lastly, will you be someone's Jonathan? Think about this!

Prayers.

Please sing this song:

Praise, my soul, the King of heaven;
to his feet thy tribute bring;
ransomed, healed, restored, forgiven,
evermore his praises sing:
Alleluia, alleluia!
Praise the everlasting King.

Praise him for his grace and favor
to our fathers in distress;
praise him still the same for ever,
slow to chide and swift to bless:
Alleluia, alleluia!
Glorious in his faithfulness.

Father-like, he tends and spares us;
well our feeble frame he knows;
in his hand he gently bears us,
rescues us from all our foes.
Alleluia, alleluia!
Widely yet his mercy flows.

Angels, help us to adore him;
ye behold him face to face;
sun and moon, bow down before him,
dwellers all in time and space.
Alleluia, alleluia!
Widely yet his mercy flows
